The walled garden was laid out in the 18th century as the house's kitchen garden. Today half of it still feeds the kitchen and the other half is borders, lawn and an old orchard, with the Dovecote at the far end.
When to come
- April and May: tulips, apple blossom and the first rhubarb on the breakfast compote.
- June and July: the roses on the house and the lavender walk to the Dovecote.
- September and October: apples, damsons and the border's last flush, with the fires lit in the evenings.
Guests in the Garden Suite have their own door into it, and the wood-fired sauna is in the old bothy at the top of the garden.
