The Drawing Room is the heart of the house: deep sofas, a log fire lit from October to April, and windows onto the lawn for the long summer evenings. Afternoon tea is served here every day, with sandwiches cut to order, scones baked that afternoon and served with clotted cream and our own strawberry jam, and a stand of small cakes.
From Thursday to Sunday the kitchen cooks a short supper menu for residents who would rather not go out again, and the honesty bar is open all evening. Ask the night before and we will pack a picnic hamper for your walk instead.
Worth knowing. Afternoon tea is £34 a person; please order by noon. Non-residents welcome for tea by arrangement.
